“To be an artist is to believe in life.” ~ Henry Moore
A collection of paintings and drawings inspired by the life around her, Christie Nicklay’s art conveys the beauty and simplicity of everyday life.
Come in, peruse at your leisure, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
“Shy Fox” – 10×8 acrylic on canvas board. I love animals — especially foxes. They are one of the most beautiful creatures on earth. “Shy Fox” is a portrait of a lone fox curled up and looking ever so docile. His eyes tell a story. I wonder what he’s thinking.
Tranquility by definition is the quality or state of being tranquil; a calmness; peacefulness; quiet; serenity. This piece says that and more. I currently have this painting hanging in my music room. I can’t help but stop and look at it and I always walk away with a smile on my face.
I began this piece as an entry to an all-media art competition with a theme of “weather”. While trying to decide how to approach the project, I would study the clouds...
We have a flowering crab apple tree in our backyard that when it’s in bloom is one of the most beautiful, alluring things I’ve ever seen. Over the summer...
Sunset on The Water
As everyone knows, one of my favorite views is fog in the hills and across water. I also love the site of the sun’s reflection on water as it sets. The combination of the two is what inspired this painting.
Autumn’s Wooded Riverbed
Autumn is my favorite time of year if for no other reason than the changing colors of the leaves. Behind our house is a wooded hillside where deer travel through often…sometimes right down to my flower gardens. It’s the smell of the woods and the sounds of crackling leaves as the deer pass through that inspired “Autumn’s Wooded Riverbed”.
I love the mystery of a foggy sunrise or sunset, especially on a lake or pond. “Sunset Loons” depicts a calm atmosphere that makes me want to sit back and soak up the serenity of this pond…just like the loons.
Birch trees are one of my favorite things to paint. As I awaited the arrival of my first grandson in early 2015, I painted a mural of birch trees and owls on his nursery wall.
